Let successful TV writer Sylvia Batey Alcala (A MAN ON THE INSIDE, ORDINARY JOE, 1 Pilot) help you transform your brilliant premise into a page-turning script! In this 5-week Online TV Drama Pilot Class, you’ll learn how to craft a great logline, structure a compelling story, plan a season arc that keeps the audience hooked, and break your pilot story just like they do in the writers’ room.
Sylvia will show you how to dramatize and sprinkle in the right amount of plot, character and story for a one-hour show. Through in-class workshopping and pitching, you’ll clarify your tone, voice and world. By the end of this class, you will have created a beat sheet for an irresistible TV Drama pilot.
After studying with us, our alums have landed staff writing positions on shows including FARGO, NOBODY WANTS THIS and A MAN ON THE INSIDE and won 193 fellowships/staffing program spots at organizations including Disney, WB, Paramount.

Sylvia Batey Alcalá
A MAN ON THE INSIDE, ORDINARY JOE, 1 Pilot
Sylvia Batey Alcalá is a writer-producer on Mike Schur's acclaimed mystery comedy, A MAN ON THE INSIDE (Netflix), most recently serving as a Consulting Producer for season two. Sylvia is also a Supervising Producer on Amazon's upcoming romance EVERY YEAR AFTER. She has previously written for the family comedy PRIMO (Amazon), as well as the dramas LEGACIES (CW), ORDINARY JOE (NBC) and FIELD OF DREAMS (UTV). Her romantic traumedy pilot, NEXT OF KIN, sold to WB in a competitive situation. She has worked across media as a writer-director-actor-hyphen enthusiast, with films and a digital series that have played Oscar-qualifying festivals and collected numerous accolades. Prior to her career as a writer, she worked in Warner Bros TV Main Production. Sylvia is an alum of the Sundance Episodic Lab and the Black List/WIF Feature Residency. MORE
