You have all the elements of a great Spec: a great show, an original premise and a solid beat sheet. Unfortunately, the thought of actually writing the spec draft fills you with dread every time you stare down at the blank screen. No problem!

The Goldbergs Vicky Castro (ABC/Disney Fellow, THE GOLDBERGS) will take you through the paces in this seven-week Online TV Spec Draft Writing Workshop. She will help you hone your beat sheets, turn them into an outline, and craft your fresh new take on an existing show with pizazz. Vicky will also show you how to write that killer opening scene and turn your detailed roadmap into literary gold. By the end of the class, you’ll have made progress on your first draft and be on your to way to revising it. Fellowship invitation not included.

After studying with us, our alums have landed 402 staff writing positions on shows including FARGO, PERRY MASON, AMERICAN BORN CHINESE, THE BROTHERS SUN, FRASIER and DAVE and won 173 fellowships/staffing program spots at organizations including Disney, NBCU, WB, Paramount & Disruptors.

Prerequisites: Beat sheet of a spec episode of an existing TV show.

Vicky Castro

ABC/Disney Fellow, THE GOLDBERGS, 1 Film

Vicky Castro is a TV writer. She was hired to write a feature that is currently in development and is also writing on a true crime comedy podcast and YouTube show produced by AudioBoom hosted by Bailey Sarian who has over 7.5 million subscribers on YouTube. She wrote on Sony/ABC's THE GOLDBERGS for three seasons. She was a 2020 Disney/ABC TV Program Writer. Before that, she was a Development Assistant at Montgomery Studios. Vicky became involved in The Second City and was a winner of the 2016 Outside the Box sketch competition. She also won a spot in Second City's Conservatory Program. She was a translator and international news PA for CNN Chile and worked in advertising at DigitasLBi, a global marketing and technology agency. She graduated from Northwestern University with a BS in Journalism and International Studies. MORE
