Pre-requisite: Beat sheet for a 1/2 hour comedy or dramedy finished in TV 1 or TV Comedy 1 at Writing Pad. No 1 hour projects allowed, no projects that have not been vetted in a Writing Pad TV 1 class.

You have all the elements of a great TV Comedy: a great premise, clear characters, an engaging world, and a solid beat sheet. Unfortunately, the thought of actually writing the pilot fills you with dread every time you stare down at the blank screen. No problem! Lauren Wells (WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS) will take you through the paces in this 10-week Online TV Comedy Pilot Draft Writing Workshop. She will help you hone your beat sheets, turn them into an outline, and introduce your characters with pizazz. Lauren will also show you how to write that killer opening scene and turn your detailed roadmap into literary gold. By the end of this Online TV Comedy Draft Writing Workshop, you’ll have made progress on your first draft and be on your to way to revising it. Emmy not included.

What We Do In The Shadows

Lauren Wells is a screenwriter who wrote on FX's Emmy nominated television show WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS for 3 seasons and was most recently a Story Editor for season six. Prior to getting staffed, she was the show's Writers' Assistant. Additionally, she was a Writers' Assistant on UNBREAKABLE KIMMY SCHMIDT (Netflix), assisted the Line Producer on HAPPY! (SyFy), and was the Showrunner's Assistant on ANGELYNE (Peacock). Over the past year, Lauren adapted Bram Stoker's DRACULA as a twenty episode podcast series called MINA + LUCY'S GUIDE TO SLAYING DRACULA. Produced by Gen Z Media, the series stars Bradley Whitford. Lauren studied improv and sketch comedy at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre while finishing her M.F.A in Writing and Producing for Television at LIU Brooklyn. She has a B.A. in English from Hobart + William Smith Colleges, where she focused on creative writing and poetry. Lauren's poetry has been featured in New York Quarterly, Everyday Genius, Burner Magazine, and The Legendary. MORE
