Writing Pad is a writing school based in Downtown Los Angeles, Westwood, and San Francisco that offers classes for adults in a variety of genres including fiction, creative nonfiction, screenwriting, playwriting, and writing for actors with award-winning writers. We’ve been around for almost 10 years, are a Best of LA Weekly school, and have helped numerous students publish essays, books, and get representation.


Writing Pad regularly hosts events including author panels, readings, and Writers With Drinks networking events. The Social Media & Events Intern will help promote the school’s classes and events by utilizing social media marketing. They will also assist in the planning and running of events alongside the school’s Events Manager. Past speakers and teachers include: Diablo Cody (writer “Juno”), Nia Vardalos (actress/writer “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”), Tim Minear (executive producer “American Horror Story”), Scott Neustadter (writer “500 Days of Summer), Michael Saltzman (co-executive producer “Madmen”), Stephen Falk (co-executive producer “Orange is the New Black), Bob Gale (writer “Back to the Future”), Sivert Glarum (executive producer “Maron”), Lee Shipman (creator “Hemlock Grove”).

This internship is great way to:

1. Get involved in the LA writing community

2. Connect with prominent local authors, screenwriters, literary agents

3. Learn creative ways to encourage literary minded Angelenos to participate in events and classes

4. Gain experience in social media marketing and event planning

5. Work on fun projects and have a voice in shaping literary events and marketing campaigns



1. We’ll buy you a yummy lunch on the days you come into the office

2. Up to two free multi-week writing classes of your choosing



-Use Twitter, Facebook, Blogger, etc. to promote classes and events

-Write event descriptions and blog posts

-Research and share writing-related blogs and publications for social media posts

-Research potential panelists for events and teachers for classes

-Work with the Events Manager to plan and run 2 events per month

-Contribute ideas to help engage students and grow Writing Pad’s programming



-A strong background in writing

-Experience using social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, WordPress (or willingness to learn)

-Preferably Mac proficient with some experience using Microsoft Office software

-A flexible attitude and willingness to try and learn new things

-Attention to detail

-Must be enrolled in a full-time degree program


Internship is school-credit only but includes perks like free classes and lunch. 10 hours/week for a duration of six months. Applicants must be local to Los Angeles and willing to spend at least one day per week working in the school’s Downtown Los Angeles location and must also be able to attend 2 events per month. We take your schedule into consideration when choosing dates for events.
