You’ve learned the basics of the personal essay. But how do you keep the magic going day after day, week after week, year after year? In this four-week class, Brett Paesel will help you take your essay and freelancing skills to the next level. She’ll show you how to write essays so good, editors will keep coming back for more. You’ll learn to how to evaluate your ideas, write glorious prose, and troubleshoot problematic arcs. She will teach you how to transform your rough drafts into publishable essays. Brett will also discuss approaching contacts, sending pitches, and etiquette issues. Students will have the opportunity to bring questions to class and get them answered. By the end of the class, you’ll have finished 1-2 essays and be well on your way to joining the ranks of the 63 published Writing Pad Alums and have acquired the freelancing skills to keep getting your name in print! We have helped 63 students get paid and published for their work in publications such as Self, Marie Claire, LA Times, Salon, Spirit Magazine, and New York Magazine. You’re next.
