CECIL CASTELUCCI

cecil_castellucciA recent recipient of two Macdowell Fellowships and the Launchpad space science workshop, Cecil Castellucci is the award-winning author of six young adult novels, three graphic novels, and one picture book, “Grandma’s Gloves,” which won the California Book Award Gold Medal for juvenile literature. Her works include “Boy Proof” on Candlewick Press, “The Plain Janes” for DC Comics, for which she was awarded the Shuster award for best Canadian Comic Book Writer; and “First Day on Earth” on Scholastic Press. Her short stories have appeared in Strange horizons, Tor.com, YARN and the anthologies, Geektastic (which she co-edited), Teeth, Dear Bully, Interfictions 2 and After. Castellucci was also commissioned by EMC+ to write the libretto for an original opera Les Aventures de Madame Merveille, with music composed by Andre Ristic. She has written numerous performance pieces and her first play “Westward Expansion” debuted in Fall 2006 at the Alliance Repertory Company in Los Angeles. Her newest novel is “The Year of the Beasts.” Cecil hosts the monthly Teen Author Reading Series at the LAPL Central Library, is the YA editor for the Los Angeles Review of Books, and the Children’s Correspondence Coordinator for The Rumpus. She is featured in the documentary “Mortified Nation.”
